Buzz Bee Double Shot - Review!

"Groovy..."
- Ash, Army of Darkness

Remember the movie Army of Darkness? Watching Ash blast away undead with his 12 Gauge Double Barreled Remington (aka "Boomstick!") was simply priceless!

Over the years, zombie-themed movies have also featured dual barreled shotguns being the preferred firearm for suppressing hordes of zombies and ghouls. It'll be fun to re-enact those scenes... you know, just to practice in case of zombie infestation!

Well, Buzz Bee has answered that call with the Buzz Bee Double Shot!

The Double Shot uses a spring powered air plunger system that is primed by "breaking" open the blaster (replicating the action of a remington), a taut cord inside the mechanism pulls back the plunger.

This blaster features an interesting shell-based ammo system, it comes with 4 plastic ammo shells which you slot foam darts into (compatible with most nerf foam darts). After you "break" open the blaster, just load in the 2 prepared shells.

Snap close the blaster, aim and fire. The trigger system is 2-stage, which means you can fire off 1 shot at a time (left barrel then right barrel) by pulling the trigger lightly once then harder another time. Or you can just pull the trigger all the way to fire off both shots at the same time.

Range is comparable to Nerf blasters at around 25-30 feet.

Here comes the fun part... "break" open the blaster, both empty shells will fly out and hit the floor with a most satisfying "clink-clunk"! ... But don't stop, quickly load in another 2 prepared shells and snap back to fire, the zombies are rushing in!

Arrrgh... my brains...

  4. hi,

ima avid buzzbee-er and i would like to know if a paper dart holder would be able to fit in the holes and when the darts get in side and click, will the paper be able to come out?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Well, if you want replicate the original plastic shells with paper material, i'd think you'd have to use some sort of dense board material mix and figure out a way to shape it to match the original shells exactly... that sounds like alot of work.

Might as well just buy the Buzz Bee Ammo shell and Dart refill packs. :)

    ReplyDelete
  6. Yup, it can be modded. Check online for Double Shot mod guides, quite a few interesting ones around. :)

    ReplyDelete
  7. how about the refills? how much is it?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Last i saw, local Toys R Us outlets were selling the Buzz Bee Refill packs at SGD$6.95, comes with 8 x foam darts and 6 x shells.

    ReplyDelete
  9. how well does it chamber other darts?

    ReplyDelete
  10. It's shells and barrel loading chambers can fit the majority of current Nerf foam darts well.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Well, i've tested the shells with the majority of Nerf darts and they can fit.

Not too sure about 3rd party darts or DIY darts though, those can sometimes have odd dimensions. :)

    ReplyDelete
  12. Ok thanx im going to go buy one soon! :)

    ReplyDelete
  13. Any idea where one might be selling specifically over these two weeks?

    ReplyDelete
  14. In Singapore, Buzz Bee Double Shots can be found at most Toys R Us outlets.

  16. Got my double shot at Toys r us, Tampines Mall. Was kinda skeptical of finding it there, but found it i did. It doesn't really fire very far though, even though i'm sure i cocked it right. Any ideas?

  17. Jeremiah,

I guess most people get the Double Shot mainly because they simply like the "break open" loading action and ejecting shells. :)

Due to its design, the Double Shot isn't a blaster thats known for much modding potential for longer range though.

That being said, you could still try getting abit of extra distance via the usual modding methods, ie. removing the ARs in the shells, installing better plunger o-rings, and perhaps replacing the stock springs with aftermarket springs (but do be careful especially with spring strength or else they might over-stress and damage the "break open" priming mechanism).

i like nerf i wanna collect all of them...... lol

  19. Do the shells just go flying out? if so how far???

    ReplyDelete
  20. highlander664,

Yup, when the blaster barrels are opened, the shells will automatically eject out.

Usually the shells will just pop out 1-2 ft away and land on the floor. :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. I'm going to get one soon! How far does an average dart go?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Ryan,

Depending on the type of foam darts used, average range is around 25+ ft.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I purchased one of these today, because a crew of friends decided to play a game of Zombie Apocalypse downtown and I wanted to take on the invasion with the classic boomstick. I found that while it was exceptionally cool and was really fun to play with, lots of times the darts actually failed to launch. I personally blame it on the quality of the buzz bee darts, but it would be nice to have more confidence in a gun when a zombie is about to maim you.

    ReplyDelete
  24. erm... my frend said that he bought it for 35$ so how much isit now?

  25. BM sec 1 floorballers,

The Buzz Bee Double Shot is currently avaliable at local Toys R Us stores, retailing at SGD$26.90.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Halo Master 835,

Yup, there are a newer versions of the Double Shot in orange/green colour scheme.

So far i've not done any mods on my Double Shots, but will definitely post a mod guide if i eventually get around to working on them. :)

  28. i have the gun but i hate how the shells eject one of mines gone through the air condition.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Musta,

Yes, it can also fire Nerf Tagger Darts.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Will the barrel break if the user slings it? Y'know, one hand, Devil May Cry style?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Musta,

I guess you can try, see if it breaks after a while. :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. could you please make a mod write-up for this

    ReplyDelete
  33. Where could I buy an old version double shot in the U.S.?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Aaron,

As already mentioned my review, average stock range is around 25-30ft.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'm trying to shorten the barrel, andI need to know is the end cap on the barrel detatchable?By this I mean can u unscrew it and reattachit again.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Lazy101,

On some versions the front tip of the barrels are also glued on, so you'll just need to pry them off too. They can still be reattached and glued back on.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Musta, you can "sling" it closed, and it works fine; but no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't sling it open hard enough to re-cock it. The cocking action is achieved by opening the breech, then pulling the barrels further. it takes a decent amount of pull to recock. (My 4 year old daughter couldn't do it.) It didn't break, though, no matter how hard I tried to swing it that way.

  38. dam, i want this and an alpha trooper, just mod them and grab a set of gears of war armour and u got a GOW 3 loadout

    ReplyDelete
  39. IT'S NOT IN MALAYSIA! ARRRRRGH!!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Also, If you take the Shell, remove the air restictor, you can put the shell on the front of the a Titan that has had the barrel removed to make it shoot Darts

    ReplyDelete
  41. I was thinking of getting one of these, the only problem seemed to be that reloading would be an issue with the shells during a Nerf war. Just loosing them/running out mid battle and the fact that it looks slightly finicky.

Is there a way to remove the ends of the shells then glue the shells into the barrel so you can just slot the darts in directly?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Nyrb Jenings,

Yes, it's possible to get the shells to permanently stay inside the barrels.

Just drill holes large enough (to rearload foam darts) at the back of 2 shells, remove the shell ejection springs from the blaster, then glue the modded shells into the loading ports.

Note that you'll have to use foam darts with narrow tips though, or the rearloading design wouldn't work.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Erm can you paint it without remove all of its parts
    thank you :D

    ReplyDelete
  44. TheHahaBoy,

Sure... though its always better to paint the parts individually so you can get a more complete paint coverage.

    ReplyDelete
  45. sorry to bother again, but can the double shot fire the darts without putting the empty shells with them, like just loading the bullets with the shells.

    ReplyDelete
  46. TheHahaBoy,

In stock condition, it cannot load and fire foam darts without the ammo shells.

But the blaster can be modded to eliminate the need to use the ammo shells, just check at the various modding threads on Nerf forums to find out the methods.

    ReplyDelete
  47. can you just put a plastic bag around all of it but the part you want to spray paint

    ReplyDelete
  48. hayden,

    Sure, that could work too.

    ReplyDelete
  49. hello
I was wondering if you have to use the shells or will it work without them, also will it use nerf whistler darts.

    ReplyDelete
  50. baldychaz,

It requires the ammo shells to be used.

Nerf whistler foam darts can be used too.

  51. How long is the shotgun?

    ReplyDelete
  52. samuelc1824,

Around 70cm in length, you can see its scale comparison with the Nerf Maverick in the review.

    ReplyDelete
  53. How long is the gun while bent?

  54. samuelc1824,

Just divide the length by two? :)

    1. Anonymous,

The version with side-by-side barrels (like in my review) is the old version... it's no longer available in local stores.

The new version in stores is the one with the vertical stacked barrels.

  59. Then is there any possible chance of getting the older version other than ebay or amazon.com?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Jack,

You can also check at the Nerf forums to find sellers with 2nd hand units for sale, i guess that's all you can do.
