Check out the Photon Storm Blaster!
This is an OEM brand blaster that popped up recently and i had the opportunity to get a set for review.
The Photon Storm uses a flywheel powered system to launch foam darts in semi-auto. It features 2 spinning flywheels positioned in a vertical layout.
This blaster requires 5 x AA batteries (sold separately) to operate. Simply engage the On/Off switch and the flywheels start spinning.
Every trigger pull fires one shot in a semi-auto sequence, a "dart pusher" behind the barrel pushes a foam dart in between the 2 spinning flywheels, then the flywheels will catch the tip of the foam dart and "throw" it out of the barrel. It operates on a similar principle to a tennis ball launcher.
The Photon Storm features an assault carbine style foam factor, mimicking the M4 Carbine design. It also features 20mm width tactical rails.
The blaster uses an ammo clip that can fit up to 12-13 foam darts. It is packaged with 10 x Streamline-like foam darts (solid rubber tips) and 10 x Suction-tipped foam darts.
Average stock range is around 25-30ft.

Update!
The Photon Storm blaster can use Nerf N-Strike Clips too. Users will just need to apply abit more force to load them in, as the clip feed opening has slightly different dimensions.
Photon Storm Blaster - With Nerf N-Strike 6-dart Clip
Photon Storm Blaster - With Nerf N-Strike 18-dart Clip
Photon Storm Blaster - With Nerf N-Strike 35-dart Drum Magazine
Note that the Photon Storm's ammo clip is not compatible with Nerf N-Strike blasters though, as it is too wide to fit.
So can you minimize this blaster?
ReplyDeleteWhere did u buy it?
ReplyDeleteLein,
ReplyDeleteIts possible, the barrel section in front of the flywheel box could be chopped off, and the shoulder stock could be removed too and the battery pack relocated.
BandittoPockett,
ReplyDeleteIt was ordered online from Taobao.com.
:sigh: Just calculated shipping costs to the US, after much translation, at least $50 lol...
ReplyDeletewhat ranges does it get?
ReplyDeletequestion: I see on the back of the box the rip off barricades and tommy 20s but I also see a stampede, is there going to be a rip off stampede blaster too?
ReplyDeleteUNG UNG UNG UNG UNG ung unnnng.
ReplyDeleteThis is relavant cause that's what the blaster sounds like when it's turned on.
Tovi,
ReplyDeleteAs mentioned in my review, the average range is around 25-30ft.
harpuia,
ReplyDeleteLooks like it... i guess they also have 3rd-party OEM Stampedes too. :)
what is the name that is printed under the 3rd party stampede because that would be very useful in finding it
DeletePopcap265,
DeleteWell, i checked and its not a name printed there, just a number "No. 7003".
Hope that helps! :)
Where can I find it on taobao? Can someone post the link please? I can't find this blaster there
ReplyDelete06ac8940,
ReplyDeleteCheck at the NerfSG forum, lots more information and discussions are posted there.
May you please put a picture up of looking down the Iron Sights?
ReplyDeleteMuch appreciated if you do!
Where can i find it in SG ?
ReplyDeleteWhat're the darts like compared to Streamlines in terms of accuracy, range etc. How are they in Nerf blasters?
ReplyDeleteP13c30fch33s3,
ReplyDeleteThe main difference is the Photon Storm's foam darts have a solid rubber tip, compared to the hollow rubber tips in Nerf Streamlines.
They work the same in Nerf blaster though... still has the same inconsistency and inaccuracy as streamlines. :)
hi..wanna ask r we allow to order toygun or nerf gun into sg ? police licenening allow ?
ReplyDeleteDesmond,
ReplyDeleteIt'll just depend on the customs checks, i have no exact idea either so i can't comment much on that.
If there are any issues with the items that you order, the package would usually be detained by customs and you'll have to liase with the police arms & explosives licensing unit about it.
I so want this gun. Can you get it anywhere in Canada
ReplyDeleteThanks
Corey,
ReplyDeleteSorry, no idea of it's availability in Canada.
I ordered it from Taobao.com (an online shopping portal from China).
Hpefully this will get through, here is the address I found it at: http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=10938848962&ad_id=&am_id=&cm_id=&pm_id=
ReplyDeleteskaorn,
ReplyDeleteYes, there are many sellers with that blaster available for sale so just check though the Taobao.com site to find the best deals.
It's too bad we will probably never see these in the United States due to the knock-offs of the Nerf and other brands. The price to get one shipped here is too rich for my blood :(.
ReplyDeleteHey SG NERF, do you think you could buy/order in bulk for us in Singapore? I can't navigate the website cos I don't understand Chinese. Might have a quite a number of people who will want to get this. Please?
ReplyDeleteRavindran,
ReplyDeleteCheck at the NerfSG forum, units of these blasters have already been mass ordered for the local members there.
Now this is something i would buy and use here in the us. Too bad it will never see the light of day here, due to Nerf pretty much owning this type of market. Do you think there is any hope of it hitting US shelves?
ReplyDeleteSam,
ReplyDeleteI guess you'd just have to keep a lookout for them appearing at stores... though these kind of 3rd party brands tend to only pop up at the smaller toy shops.
Can you use nerf attachments on this gun?
ReplyDeleteAllen,
ReplyDeleteIts possible, but the rails are abit wider so the fit is tight. The attachments will need to be slotted in with extra effort.
Does the scope actually 'work'? As in, can you use the sight to look through and aim at targets?
ReplyDeleteJessen L.
ReplyDeleteThe "scope" is just a hollow plastic tube with a molded target shape.
I guess you could look through it and aim, but its more of a prop item. :)
Can u get it from shops in australia ot only from chinese website
ReplyDelete0_0,
ReplyDeleteAt this moment, i've only spotted them on TaoBao.com.
I have one question about this; Is it comfortable to use, and how heavy is it?
ReplyDeleteMacTrekkie,
ReplyDeleteIts similar size to a replica scale M4, just with some parts in different dimensions. Comfortable enough to use. The blasters is quite lightweight, less than 1kg.
Okay good to know. One last question: How loud is it compared to a barricade?
ReplyDeleteMacTrekkie,
ReplyDeleteImho, its flywheels noise is around the same as in a Barricade. :)
i live in the usa where can i buy this?
ReplyDeleteCheck here
Deletehttp://www.wwwtrade9898.net/products/Photon-Storm-Semi%252dAuto-soft-bullet-Gun-12%252dDarts-Extended.html
xpain3kill3r,
ReplyDeleteCheck eBay, international sellers with this blaster available for sale have been spotted there too.
ty for quick response but the cheapest one i could find was $50
ReplyDeleteSg have you jammed your photon storm? If so what actions cause the problem?
ReplyDeleteXavier Rivera,
DeleteSo far i've not experienced much jams in my units, if it happens it's usually because of bent or damaged foam darts. Its always better to use new foam darts that are in good condition.
who makes it
ReplyDeleteb-dog hippos,
DeleteThey are made by LeYuan (ZeCong) Toys company.
this gun is sooooo epic
ReplyDeleteA paint job plus voltage mod plus magnifying scope will complete the package. that will look epic
ReplyDeleteMay I know how much is it and Is this gun in singapore Toys 'R' Us??? I want one :D
ReplyDeletedid this gun prefrom better than the rayven, barricade, or stampede in cases like range, rate of fire, and usefulness
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
DeleteIn stock condition, it gets similar ranges as the other blasters.
Rate-of-fire depends on how fast the user can pull the trigger repeatedly (for the other semi-auto flywheel blasters)... the Stampede is a full-auto blaster though, and not flywheel, so its different.
In terms of usefulness, its as usable in Nerf games as other semi-auto flywheel blasters, though its overall build quality is still not as good as Nerf blasters.
This gun is cool looking and all, but to get it shipped costs $50, and the shell is just a copy off of an airsoft rifle (A pretty cool one though).
ReplyDeleteits bullshit i have one and if you use other type of ammo like SDLs and your battery power not enough the rounds will stuck in the barrel the more you fire the worser the problem
ReplyDeleteHi. I just got one at Mr. DIY, in Malaysia for RM45. Maybe 1-2r rounds will not shoot straight. But otherwise it is great. I for not really consider it a nerd copy as I for not think nerd has anything that looks like this. It looks like a M4 carbine. About the same size too.
