Buzz Bee Rapid Fire - Review!

Ah... the Winchester Model 1873, one of the most famous repeater rifles in the Wild West.

Relive the action with the Buzz Bee Rapid Fire!

The Rapid Fire features a lever-action repeating rifle mechanism, with a shell-based ammo system.

Just push the lever down with your last 3 fingers, load the 6 dart magazine, pull back up the lever and you're all ready. After every shot, repeat the process and an empty shell will eject out followed by the chambering of the next shelled foam dart.

This shell-based magazine system is actually very effective, if used properly with practice, the chances of jams are quite rare.

Range of this blaster is around 25-30 feet. It is also compatible with most Nerf foam darts (some may require slight adjustments to fit properly).

Note that the lever is made of metal and requires quite abit of effort to crank, so you'd need to use some "elbow grease" to operate it (definitely not for weaklings!).

  1. Erm, hi my name is Samson. May I know where to purchase this in Singapore and what is the estimated price tagged for this rifle? Thanks.

  2. The Buzz Bee Rapid Fire was on sale at Toys R Us outlets in Singapore a few months ago (Retail Price: S$29.90).. but its currently out of stock.

I heard that more stock will be avaliable soon at other stores so do keep a lookout for them.

Btw, login to the NerfSG forums for the latest stock updates. :)

  3. Is it possible to slit holes in the bolt and attach a 'bolt action' system? As in, how thick is the plastic..

    ReplyDelete
  4. The Buzz Bee Rapid Fire already has a fully functioning bolt-action system.

As for the plastic, you can craft it quite easily with a dremel or proper hobby tool.

  5. Hey can i ask which one is better the buzzbee double shot or this rifle

    ReplyDelete
  6. If its for games... the Rapid Fire, 'cos it uses an ammo magazine with a lever action system, providing a quicker rate-of-fire.

If its for style... the Double Shot, 'cos its looks and works like the classic "Boomstick"! :)

  7. Do Nerf Streamline Darts fit into the shells and is there any increase in range when using Streamline Darts?
    Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  8. Yes, Nerf streamline darts can fit into the shells too, though i didn't see any noticeable increase in range using those foam darts.

    ReplyDelete
  9. i cant fit streamlines into my shells for the double shot...

    ReplyDelete
  10. I've just tested again, streamline darts can fit in all my buzz bee ammo shells. Kinda odd that yours can't fit? :)

    ReplyDelete
  11. Is it possible to turn this one into a
sawed-off? I turned my double shot into a sawed-off and it became more powerful and more accurate.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Yup, its definitely possible to turn it into a sawed-off design. Its just a matter of cutting and trimming the front section of the barrel. :)

    ReplyDelete
  13. Is this available in every major toy store like TRU now?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Could you post a bolt action mod for this gun? I find that my streamline darts curve a bit (I use a modded recon and/or longSTRIKE) my modded longSHOT is very powerful, but inaccurate. I'm looking for an alternative blaster that shoots standard darts. The bolt is just a nice touch. I will also cut a flat side for the raider stock to fit onto this. It won't retract and extend, but wll be a much stronger shoulder stock. I might add a more accurate iron sight.

    If u can't post one that's ok.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Sorry, the bolt action mod for the Buzz Bee Rapid Fire doesn't appeal to me, so I wouldn't be doing that mod anytime soon.

Anyways, you can find that mod posted on Nerf forums by other modders too. :)

Btw, blaster accuracy is highly dependent on the type of foam darts used, stock streamline darts have a tendency to swerve and spiral when fired from modded blasters. Most experienced nerfers use customized foam darts instead, with calibrated tip weights for balance and accuracy.

  16. mine has a very inconcistent range any tips on how to fix this?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Liam,

From my experience, inconsistant range on such blasters could be due to a few factors:

    1) Using low quality or damaged foam darts.

    2) Using foam darts that are too loose for the cartridge shell.

    3) The contact between the bolt and cartridge shell is not completely air-tight, resulting in air leaks when firing.

Try using different brands or types of foam darts, and check that the bolt and cartridge shell contact points are air-tight.

Hopefully, those solutions might help enable the range to become more consistant.

  18. Exactly what do you mean by the lever is made of metal? I have two and both are broken. I took one apart since the stopper broke and the other because the pin broke. It doesn't look like metal, but then again, mine is newer. Are the old ones made with more metal, cause I would like a longer lasting one

    ReplyDelete
  19. Ben,

For the version of the Buzz Bee Rapid Fire in my review, the lever handle which i've to put my last 3 fingers in to prime the blaster is made of metal.

Perhaps the lever handle material are different in the newer versions?

  20. Hey, Do you know if this gun is available in the USA? I want one but I can't find one anywhere!

  21. my friend said that he got it for 50+ dollars last year so i wonder how much is it now?

    ReplyDelete
  22. BM sec 1 floorballers,

The Buzz Bee Rapid Fire can currently be found at Toys R Us stores in Singapore, retailing for SGD$34.95.

    ReplyDelete
  23. i heard that it has poor range is it true?

    ReplyDelete
  24. BM sec 1 floorballers,

Well, for the stock sets that i tested, they had ranges similiar to my other stock Nerf Blasters like the Recon or Raider.

I guess it also depends on luck whether a purchased set is working well too. :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. so which one do you prefer? recon or rapid fire?

    ReplyDelete
  26. BM sec 1 floorballers,

Well, if the choice is only between the two, for conventional Nerf games i'd go for the Nerf Recon, 'cos it doesn't use ammo shells (have to pick up and easy to lose), uses N-Strike clips which can be easily bought in stores and is compatible with N-Strike parts and accessories.

If its for fun game scenarios (ie. Humans vs Zombies) or just for showcase purposes, i'd bring out the Buzz Bee Rapid Fire 'cos of the cool ejecting shell effect. :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. I REALLY wish Nerf would make a "lever-action" blaster similar to this... I find their build quality MUCH higher than Buzz Bee's (sadly), but love the whole repeater rifle style! They made the Barrel Break, though, so maybe one day?

    ReplyDelete
  28. i got it at US walmart for USD $12

    ReplyDelete
  29. Regarding the shells, Is there any way to make a tighter air seal in between the dart and shell? Like possibly brass breaching the shells? I also heard there are AR's in the shells, any idea on how to remove them?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Ryan =],

I guess its possible to slot brass tube sections (or any other suitable tube material) in the shells to create a tighter seal on the foam darts, you'll just have to match the right tube dimensions to the shell and foam darts.

The ARs in the shells can be removed with a pair of needle-nose pliers or perhaps a drill. Simply pull out the dart post and knock out the AR, or just drill it through.

  31. is it available in suntec city toys R us? , try spin cocking it like 1887

    ReplyDelete
  32. Joseph,

Yes, you should still be able to find it at Suntec Toys R Us branch.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I just picked this one up, it is an awesome addition to my Recon and my Longstrike... do you have any Mod tips for this particular rifle?

    ReplyDelete
  34. griever2112,

Well, there are 2 basic mods that can be done quite easily: AR Removal in the blaster and ammo shells, and adding a stronger aftermarket spring.

You can also check out the various Nerf forums for other mods that have been done on this blaster.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Hey SG Nerf, its 2010 and I want the Buzz Bee Air Blasters Rapid Fire but I have to check how much it is before I can request it to my parents.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Sky,

They usually retail for around SGD$34.95 at Toys R Us store in Singapore.

Do check around 'cos there might be some good sales with discounts on them this Christmas holiday season.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Is there any chance that you could mod it to make the shots more powerful, I use the whistler darts from a Nerf Spectre Rev. It got slightly more powerful and i'm just looking for more power.

    ReplyDelete
  38. SilentDeath,

Sure, performance mods for this blaster include: Air restrictor (AR) removal, installing a plunger o-ring with better air seal, adding a stronger aftermarket spring for more power etc... pretty much the same set of common mods for most spring plunger blasters.

  39. Hi, Snafu here, I am planning to get this gun cos I want to get a cheap and good gun. But I was wondering, if they sold clips and shells for this gun. Cos if I go for a NERF match, I wanna use a gun which I can reload fast so that I can shoot back immedietly. Thanks :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Jason Snafu Yap,

Well, so far i've not seen clips for this blaster sold separately at local stores, so i'm not sure where they can be found. I guess that's the limitation of this blaster, the supply of it's accessories tend to be rather sporadic.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I took the spring from this and stuck it in the maverick and now my maverick shoots like crazy! superb range!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Can you load the darts through the side? (with no clip) plz respond

    ReplyDelete
  43. xxx123,

It's possible, but it's easier to manually load them through the bottom slot instead.

Not sure about its stock availability in the States, but in Singapore they are currently still available at local Toy R Us stores.

You can try checking at Toys R Us stores in Singapore, some outlets might still have stock.

If not, then i guess you'll have to search Amazon.com or eBay.com to order it in from overseas.

It depends on the individual eBay sellers... some do, some don't. You'll have to check the "shipping and payments" section in their sales listings.

  48. What's the specialty of this gun? Does it shoots far or has good accuracy? And is it still available now?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Anonymous,

The main feature is its unique lever action priming mechanism, along with the clip and shell system. Some users like how it works.

Range is around 25-30ft so quite average for most foam dart blasters, accuracy is okay too.

At this moment, they are still available at Toys R Us stores in Singapore.
